This week I am dipping into my private stash of raw goodies to bring you a very special meal. And since the main course is special, I’m resurrecting one of 2010’s best desserts to go along with it. This is a meal you don’t want to miss.
Before I tell you what it is, I’m pleased to announce that you can now get Jozi Uncooked raw cashew cheese spread at Fresh Earth in Emmarentia, in addition to Greenlands in Parkhurst, Fruits and Roots in Bryanston, and the Market on Main in Maboneng precinct in town. Fresh Earth will be stocking Jozi Uncooked’s raw cakes in their dessert counter too, so be sure to stop in and have a slice of raw cheesecake with your tea.
The special treat this week is … kelp noodles. These are a delicious raw noodle made from sea vegetables, with a very neutral taste that picks up the flavours of whatever they’re served with. They are amazingly delicious and a blessing for busy raw foodies. In short, they’re pretty much a healthy, raw fast food. I got them from California (Sea Tangle noodle company), and so far they are not available in SA. But never fear, I’m working on that.
Here’s what the product website says about them:
” Noodles are a sea vegetable in the form of an easy to eat raw noodle. Made of only kelp (a sea vegetable), sodium alginate (sodium salt extracted from a brown seaweed), and water, Kelp Noodles are fat-free, gluten-free, and very low in carbohydrates and calories.”
Main course: Kelp noodles with veggies in a sesame-ginger sauce. R60
Dessert: Caramel filled brownies. A layer of pecan-cacao brownie, a layer of superfood (lucuma) and date caramel, and a chocolate layer on top. Addictive! R20
